CHAPTER 1 : PART 1 INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND DEVELOPMENT PREPARED BY: SITI ASSILAH BT NAZLI FATIN ZHAFIRAH BT MOHD ZELANI SYAFA’ BT KAMARUDIN SITI ZUBAIDAH BT MOHD RAZIN

STRUCTURED DEVELOPMENT VERSUS OBJECT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT

STRUCTURED DEVELOPMENTOBJECT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT Predominantly data driven system that transform data from one form into another form or information Viewed as a collection of objects Employs various diagrams and documentation standards for describing the requirement of Information System Object is a representation of a thing. Eg: customer containing attributes such as name and telephone number also may perform some actions such as create new customer and delete customer.

STRUCTURED DEVELOPMENTOBJECT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT Users need to participate in the analysis and design process as they are the people who will use the new system System developer first defines the object needed in the new or revised Information System. Drawback: Too much time to create and too many documentations Unified Modeling Language use to describe Information System.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROJECT TEAM People who involve in developing information system for examples; users, business analyst, system analyst, infrastructure analyst, change management analyst and project manager.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROJECT TEAM PROJECT TEAMSUGGESTIONS End user End users will directly interact with the information systems. They supply data and receive information from the information system. Cik Siti Who is the accounts clerk will use the information system more often than other user. She will directly supply data and receive information from the information system. Business analyst Business analyst will plan and design the phases in analysing the business aspects and issues surrounding the information system. Most of business analyst will likely have business experience and some type of professional training. Encik Talhah Who is the account manager of Qaisara. He might be the business analyst because he knows everything about the company’s procedure and policies. He also has more experiences and professional training in accounting.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROJECT TEAM PROJECT TEAMSUGGESTIONS Systems Analyst Focuses on improving business processes, design information system and create new business processes and ensure it comply with the standards. Rafiq Who has an accounting background. He realized that the company needs a proper information system regarding to the uncollectible debts. He is the one who suggest to Encik Talhah that the company needs a computerized billing and collection system. Infrastructure Analyst Identifies and implement infrastructure changes on technical issues e.g hardware, software, database and network. Has significant training and experience on information technology. Zain Who own an IT consultancy company can be the infrastructure analyst for this project. Since Qaisara do not have an expert in IT they should hire Zain because he has more knowledge about IT and can monitor the infrastructure changes on technical issues.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROJECT TEAM PROJECT TEAMSUGGESTIONS Change Management Analyst Focus on people and management issues. Must have significant training and experience in organizational behaviour in general. The company should hire other people to ensure that adequate documentation and support is available to users, providing user training on the new system and developing strategies to overcome resistance to change. Project Manager Monitoring the whole project development from the beginning to the end and has experience in project management and has worked for many years as a system analyst. Rafiq Since Rafiq found out the problem in the company and suggests to the company to develop a system, he is preferable to be a project manager. He is going to prepare a proposal to be accepted by his uncle. So, he will monitor all works from the start to the beginning.
