WHAT IS SAD? System: A set of detailed methods, procedures and routines established to carry out specific activity, solve a problem or to perform a duty. System Analysis: The survey and planning. The study and analysis. The definition. System Design: The process of defining the architecture, components, modules, interfaces and data for a system. BACK 3

NEED FOR SAD  Installing a system without proper planning leads to great user dissatisfaction and frequently cause the system to fall into disuse.  Lends structure to the analysis and design of information systems. BACK 4

ROLE OF THE SYSTEM ANALYST  The analyst plays a key role in information systems development projects.  Must understand how to apply technology to solve business problem. BACK 5

QUALITIES OF SYSTEM ANALYST  Communicator  Strong Personal and Professional Ethics  Self Disciplined and Self Motivated BACK 6

CHARACTERISTICS OF SYSTEM A component: An irreducible part or aggregation of parts that make up a system, also called a subsystem Interrelated components: Dependence of one subsystem on one or more subsystems Boundary: The line that marks the inside and outside of a system and that sets off the system form its environment 7

Purpose The overall goal or function of a system Environment Everything external to a system that interacts with the system Interface Point of contact where a system meets its environment or where subsystems meet each other. BACK 8

FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS  Technical Feasibility: Can we build it?  Economic Feasibility: Should we build it?  Organizational Feasibility: If we build it, will they come? BACK 10

IMPORTANT SYSTEM CONCEPTS There are several other system concepts with which systems analysts need to become familiar: Decomposition Modularity Coupling Cohesion 11

Decomposition: The process of breaking down a system into smaller component. Modularity: Dividing a system up into chunks or modules of a relatively uniform size. To Simplify the redesign and rebuild process. Coupling: The extend to which subsystems depend on each other. Cohesion : A cohesion is the extent to which a subsystem performs a single function. SUMMARY  Information is a key source.  System analysts deal with many types of information systems.  Qualities of SA.  The SDLC.  Feasibility Analysis. BACK 13
