Creating a Flag

United States “stars and stripes” flag symbolism The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of the United States of America. The 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain and became the first states in the Union. White: Signifies purity and innocence Red: Signifies valor and bravery Blue: Signifies Vigilance, perseverance, and justice "The star is a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial; the stripe is symbolic of the rays of light emanating from the sun."

Soviet “hammer and sickle” flag symbolism The red field symbolizes the blood that has been spilled by workers and farmers in their struggles. The hammer symbolizes urban industrial workers while the sickle symbolizes agricultural workers (peasants)—who together, as the Proletarian class, form the communist state. The red star with yellow outlining represents the Communist Party, and its position over the hammer and sickle symbolizes its leading role in socialist society to unify workers and peasants.

United Kingdom “Union Jack” flag symbolism It combines the crosses of the three countries united under one Sovereign - the kingdoms of England and Wales, of Scotland and of Ireland The flag consists of three heraldic crosses. The cross of St George, patron saint of England since the 1270's, is a red cross on a white ground. The cross of St Andrew, patron saint of Scotland, is a diagonal white cross on a blue ground. The cross of St Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, is a diagonal red cross on a white ground. These were combined after the Act of Union of Ireland with England (and Wales) and Scotland on 1 January 1801, to create the Union Flag

Chinese flag symbolism The red background symbolizes the communist revolution and the golden colors were used to "radiate" on the red background. The five stars and their relationship represents the unity of Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The orientation of the stars shows that the unity should go around a center. In the original description of the flag, the larger star symbolizes the Communist Party of China, and the four smaller stars that surround the big star symbolize the four social classes (the working class, the peasantry, the urban bourgeoisie and the national bourgeoisie) of Chinese people.

Explain how a flag strengthen nationalism for a country?

Create your own flag on these terms… Imagine a new socialist nation is creating a flag and you have been put in a charge of creating the flag. Use symbolism to represent aspects of socialism/communism on your flag.
