OTRANTO Located on the Adriatic coast of Salento, Otranto is the most Eastern town in Italy. Otranto Cape, also called Punta Palascia, at the South of the town, is the extreme Eastern geographic point of the italian peninsula. First a Greek and Roman colony, then conquered by the Byzantine Empire, the town develops around its imposing Castle and Norman Cathedral. In 2010 its ancient centre has been awarded the title of UNESCO Cultural Patrimony.
