Interactive white boards have been around for almost 20 years. They are used in education, businesses, and governmental areas. The two main companies that manufacture interactive white boards are SmartBoard and the Promethean board. 11

The SmartBoard originated from Canada. It was founded in 1987 by David Martin and Nancy Knowlton. Made its first appearance in In 1992, Smart linked with the Intel Corporation and the SmartBoard took off. Today it is reported that 1.7 million to date installed for schools, business, and government. Fun Fact: You may also have seen them on the popular TV series CSI. In 2003, Promethean was the first to release program for primary level called ActivPrimary. “Promethean Planet” ActivInspire is the main software space where all documents are stored and basic layouts of charts can be found and shared. v.21199http:// v (time line) 13

Research Dr. Robert J. Marzano, PhD, cofounder and CEO or Marzano Research Laboratory in Englewood, Colorado, conducted a study regarding the use of technology and student growth. The study showed that teachers who were more confident with using the boards used it more, helping instruction within their classroom. ( 14
