THE BAD NEWS- REQUEST FOR SHELTER FAMILY PROMISE HAS RECEIVED REQUEST FOR SHELTER FROM ◦ FAMILIES-387 ◦ ADULTS -528 ◦ CHILDREN-765 ◦ TOTAL INDIVIDUALS-1231  Family Promise was able to serve less then 8%  Record breaking months: Feb, March, April, Sept

THE SCOPE OF POVERTY AND HOMELESSNESS IN 2012, THE NATIONAL AND STATE POVERTY RATES REACHED THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN OVER 50 YEARS 30% OF AKRON RESIDENTS ARE LIVING BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL THE LARGEST GROUP LIVING IN POVERTY IS CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES 0-4 (28.6%) POVERTY IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF HOMELESSNESS.

THE SCOPE OF POVERTY AND HOMLESSNESS LACK OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING  AMHA HAS A WAITING OF 4,000 PEOPLE SEEKING HOUSING  FOR EVERY 100 EXTREMELY LOW INCOME RENTERS HOUSEHOLDS NATIONWIDE, THERE ARE ONLY 29 AFFORDABLE AND AVAILABLE RENTAL UNITS  IN SUMMIT COUNTY, THERE ARE 25,658 VERY POOR HOUSEHOLDS, BUT ONLY 9,860 AFFORDABLE AND AVAILABLE RENTAL UNITS  THE AVERAGE COST OF RENT FOR A 2 BEDROOM HOME IN SUMMIT COUNTY IS $750
