Presentation transcript:

Classification of Skills and Sports All training must take into consideration the needs of the individual. Needs are based on age, strengths and weaknesses, motivation, previous experience and requirements of the activity of involvement. The characteristics of each skill plays an important role in the selection of appropriate activities to use in training, how to teach and what to teach.

Classification of Skills Athletes can be classed according to individual sports and team sports Classification is also based on biomotor abilities: strength, speed, power, muscular hypertrophy, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, agility and coordination Classification is also based on motor performance requirement Skills performed in sports may be distinguished into 3 groups of exercises:

CYCLIC the motor act involves repetitive movements as soon as a cycle of the motor act is learned then it can be duplicated continuously for longer periods of time each cycle is composed of distinct phases which are identical and repeated in the same succession eg. walking, running, swimming

Walking

ACYCLIC skills composed of integral functions performed in one action eg. shotputting, boxing, fencing

Boxing

ACYCLIC COMBINED skills that are the result of the combination of a cyclic movement followed by an acyclic movement eg. long jump, pole vault, vaulting, figure skating

Long jump

Classification of Sports 1. Perfecting the coordination and form of skills 2. Attaining a superior speed in cyclic skills 3. Perfecting the strength and speed of a skill 4. Perfecting the skill performed in a contest with opponents 5. Perfecting the conduct of different means of travel 6. Perfecting the activity of the central nervous system under the stress and low physical involvement 7. Combined sports

Classification of Skill and Sport by Energy Delivery System ATP-CP system1. ATP-CP system 0-10seconds Lactic Acid system2. Lactic Acid system 0-90seconds Oxygen O2 system3. Oxygen O2 system 60seconds-2hours+
