Objectives Make connections between the 21 st century learning skills and SEL standards. Engage in a variety of strategies using a roadmap for promoting empathy in schools.

Opening: Graffiti Write At your table: What words that come to mind when thinking about what empathy means? Record as many as you can. Throughout the session please add any new words or thoughts that come to you regarding empathy.

What is SEL? SEL is a process for helping children and adults develop the fundamental skills for life effectiveness. SEL teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work, effectively and ethically.
