Community Youth Center URP 4273 Survey of Planning Information Systems Final Group Project: Team Two Spring 2003

Team Objectives Provide Youth Center To: Create a place where children of all ages can come and meet Have access to various types of information –Internet –Books, music and magazines –Various sports equipment and fields/courts –Get after school help with homework

Major Criteria for Youth Center Transportation/Accessibility Close to major roads Close to existing bus stops Construction Considerations Close to major roads for easy access for construction vehicles/workers All utilities within a reasonable proximity to the site

Major Criteria for Youth Center Existing Infrastructure Walking distance to and access of local schools Close to various local housing neighborhoods/apartment complexes Demographics Target age ranges: Adolescents

Major Criteria for Youth Center Impediments to Construction Not within flood zones Land is undeveloped and available Zoned Commercial for immediate construction Enough land to build Youth Center on and have needed parking located on site

Note For All Data Source: FGDL data for Alachua County Extent: Majority of data used are for the East Gainesville area All shapefiles provided were used in some part of the analysis. Metadata proved beneficial when Geoprocessing did not

Unsuitable Data Outlining the processes to find the data that would cause any impediments to construction

Florida Natural Areas Boundaries

FNAI Zones (A,B,C) Buffer FNAI given a 100m buffer giving us Final_con

Natural Streams Buffer

Stream_shp given a 400m buffer giving us Stream_buf400

Historic Structures Buffer Historic_shp given a 75m buffer giving us Historic_buf75

Future Land Use Buffer FNAI given a 100m buffer giving us Final_con Selection Parameters Commercial, Residential, and Recreational

Final Union of Buffers

Created field ‘buffer_ran’ Calced to a unique number to differentiate from polygons in the ‘Good Layer’ when “Unioned” Setup for Future ‘Clip’

Workflow to get to Final Union of Buffers

Suitable Lands Only thing left after we have found the numerous impediments is to find suitable areas Agreed to use areas above the flood zone as our ‘input’ layer under our ‘final_union’

FEMA/Special Flood Area Above Fl_zone and municipalities were union to create Suitable_flzone

FEMA Suitable Polygon Selection

Exclusion Areas Final Union of Buffers Land Above Flood Areas

Data Analysis Analyze city data to decide which parcel will be suitable –Census, tiger line files, metadata, utilities, zoning, etc.

Suitable Lands and Parcels PUSE Code (0000, 1000) 4 – 8 acres in size

Vacant Parcel Information Our Proposed Site is represented in yellow

Location of Vacant Parcel Using Internet GIS Software Our Proposed Site is represented in yellow

Site Analysis- Water Lines & Major Streets Our Proposed Site is represented in yellow

Site Analysis Schools, Bus Stops & Unsuitable Land Our Proposed Site is represented in yellow
