Presentation transcript:

No-one has ever driven across Antarctica with 4x4s. It’s the ultimate offroad adventure. Our goal is to drive 4200km 4x4s right across Antarctica, taking in the South Pole on the way. It will be a battle of vehicles against extreme conditions. And it starts in November Our goal

The route Antarctica is the world’s least explored continent. We will drive through areas where nobody has ever been before. Start: Novo The 4x4s start driving from one of the most remote areas in the world, Queen Maud Land. The route will pass through the South Pole and continue down to McMurdo Station. End: McMurdo Station The 4x4s will reach Antarctica’s largest station after 3-5 weeks of incredible driving. The expedition has to climb over the Transantarctic mountainrange to reach the station.

The 4x4s must survive extreme conditions in one of the most inhospitable places on earth: Temperatures could plunge as low as -40 º C. Catabatic winds are known to blow up to 300km/hour. The air is thinner on Antarctica. It will feel like beeing on an elevation of 2000 – 4000 m The lives of the team depend on the quality of the 4x4s and on our Antarctic-proof equipment. We also rely on good team work and calmness under incredible pressure. Conditions

Equipment We need equipment which is the best of the best. Our special 4x4 vehicles have been rigorously tested on different glaciers in Iceland. Halti Inc have spent over 18 months designing special clothes, tents, backpacks and sleeping bags that was used on Antarctica last season 2006

Our team come from Iceland, Finland, Russia and New Zealand. Five members has attended other expeditions on Antarctica before. Every member of the team has been selected for their experience in extreme conditions. They have already survived extraordinary adventures. They are experts with their own tasks to fulfil. The Team The team includes: Sigmundur Saemundsson – Driver/mechanic Freyr – Driver/mechanic Mika Listala - Driver/mechanic Iiro Kakko – Navigation/gear Mikko Nikkinen – Photographer/communic. Heikki Karinen - Doctor Peter Hillary - Marketing/finance Alexander Borodin - Marketing/finance Jón Olafur – Driver/Expedition leader Patrick Degerman – Logistics/finance Consultants include: Mika Kalakoski / Finnarp Tomas Kallberg / Swedarp Victor Serov / ALCI

4x4s Trans Antarctica is a big media story. People want to know if it’s really possible to drive to the South Pole and right across Antarctica? Film, photographs and a book will capture the excitement and the challenge, as well as glimpses of areas never seen before. Our team includes a TV crew, a journalist and photographer. They will record and share the details of a unique adventure in the most extreme conditions. The material will be used after the expedition on fairs, lectures, media etc. Media

The ultimate offroad adventure starts in November. How can you be part of it? Over to you
