Presentation transcript:

Imus found himself at the center of a storm after he called members of the Rutgers team "nappy- headed hos" last week. Protests ensued, and one by one, numerous sponsors pulled their ads from Imus' show. On Wednesday, MSNBC dropped its simulcast of the program.

 Don Imus is being sued for more than $4 million by an advertiser on his former show who says the radio shock jock badmouthed the company and called its commercials for a book by the late President Gerald Ford "cheesy."

Was Imus the last “media provocateur”? If most media are controlled by major corporations, who is going to be willing to put their job on the line and say something that might catch the fancy of tabloid news, and in turn upset the board of directors? Who is going to be willing to knowingly take an unpopular position and accept the accompanying risk? Speaker speaks about don Imus.

 Imus is in hot water again for making a remark about football player Adam "Pacman" Jones, after sports anchor Warner Wolf noted how many times the Dallas Cowboys cornerback has been arrested since being drafted in (The number has been six.)

 "I know there are some people who want to get me, but you not are going to get me for this. This is ridiculous," Imus said. He says he only said he was African American and he’s speaking the truth

Dan rather heard nothing of what may have caused the commotion until he reached KRLD, running all the way, through Dealy Plaza: "The moment I cleared the railroad tracks I saw a scene I will never forget. Some people were lying on the grass, some screaming, some running, some pointing. Policemen swarmed everywhere and distinctly, above the din, I heard one shout, 'DON'T ANYBODY PANIC.' And, of course, there was nothing but panic wherever you looked."[

 Dan Rather came to The Poynter Institute this week to speak to members of the public about his years as a broadcast journalist. Before Rather’s talk, I interviewed him about the state of today’s news industry and what can be done to improve it. You can read a full transcript of the interview below.

.The failure to establish a basis for the statement in the Segment that the documents "were taken from Colonel Killian’s personal files";. The failure to develop adequate corroboration to support the statements in the Killian documents and to carefully compare the Killian documents to official Texan records, which would have identified, at a minimum, notable inconsistencies in content and format; The failure to interview a range of former National Guardsmen who served with Lieutenant Colonel Killian and who had different perspectives about the documents;

 Some critics of CBS and Dan Rather argued that by proceeding with the story when the documents had not been authenticated, CBS was exhibiting liberal bias and attempting to influence the outcome of the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election. Freelance journalist Michael Smith had ed Mapes, asking, "What if there was a person who might have some information that could possibly change the momentum of an election but we needed to get an ASAP book deal to help get us the information?" Mapes replied, "that looks good, hypothetically speaking of course."

 On June 2, 1988, Rather hosted a CBS News special, The Wall Within. In it, he interviewed six former servicemen, each of whom said he had witnessed horrible acts in Vietnam. Two of the men said that they had killed civilians, and two others said that they had seen friends die. Each talked about the effects the war had upon their lives

 In February, NBC News President Deborah Turness sent an to the staff of NBC News announcing that, effective immediately, Brian Williams was suspended without pay as managing editor and anchor of the "NBC Nightly News," a position he had held since 2004.

 Brian Douglas Williams is an American journalist. He is best known for serving ten years as anchor and managing editor for NBC Nightly News, the evening news program of the NBC television network.

 In October 2011, Williams added another project to his plate, serving as anchor to the prime-time news magazine Rock Center with Brian Williams, whose correspondents included Ann Curry, Matt Lauer and Chelsea Clinton, among others.

 Williams will not be returning to the "NBC Nightly News" anchor chair; his fill-in Lester Holt will become the program's permanent anchor.

 He got suspended six months for.It has yet to be determined when and how Williams will express regret for the storytelling exaggerations that led NBC to suspend him in February.
