Presentation transcript:

Mon 5/11 What is ecology? is the scientific analysis and study of interactions among organisms and their environment.

Tues 5/12 What does an ecosystem include? All the living and non- living things that interact in a particular area.

Ecosystem 1. Draw p , color pictures and define the 4 words.

Wed 5/13 What are the 4 levels of organization in an ecosystem?

Thur 5/14 Name the abiotic and biotic factors.

Fri 5/14 Why is the population the least in Dec, Jan, and Feb? At Carrying Capacity, Winter, less food

Mon 5/18 What are limiting factors in an ecosystem?

Tue 5/19 What type of ecosystem would you find Archaebacteria ? initially viewed as extremophiles living in harsh environments, such as hot springs and salt lakes, but they have since been found in a broad range of habitats, including soils, oceans, marshlands and the human colon and navel.

Wed 5/21 If the sun was blocked by dust from an asteroid impact, which kingdom of living things would die off first? Plants - autotrophic require sunlight

Cells Prokaryote Autotrophic Bacteria how classified Protists Fungi Animalia What do plants need? Biotic factors Heterotrophic

Population Community Abiotic factors Prokaryotic and multicellular Draw a bacterial cell vs animal cell Where would you find archaea bacteria?

Exponential Growth: If a population has a constant birth rate through time and is never limited by food or disease, it has what is known as exponential growth. With exponential growth the birth rate alone controls how fast (or slow) the population grows.

Organism – single kind of living thing Population - certain species in a certain area Community - populations of two or more different species occupying the same geographical area and in a particular time. Ecosystem - is a community of living organisms (plants, animals and microbes) in conjunction with the nonliving components of their environment (things like air, water and mineral soil), interacting as a system.

Wed 5/13 Ecotone -is a transition area between two biomes. It is where two communities meet and integrate.

Habitat -is a place where it can find food, shelter, protection
