Priority issues – your views Through our engagement and capacity building work on the Disability Convention a range of issues have been highlighted What are the top three priorities from the list or ones of your own? Evidence?

Access to justice Including: access to courts and tribunals, reporting and prosecuting incidents of harassment or bullying; participation on juries; support for people with learning disabilities; changes to legal aid Articles 9, 12, 13 and14

Accessible information and communication Including: access to information about rights and legal protection; helpline/advisory services; Easy Read; BSL; access for deafblind people; provision in rural areas Articles 4.1(g) & (h), 9 and 21

Education Including: educational attainment rates; support for young disabled people transitioning from statutory education to post 16 education and training; inclusive education; SEN provision; harassment and bullying. Article 24 UK reservation / interpretative declaration

Health and social care Including: mental health laws and detention; health and social care provision. Articles 4.1(i), 16, 19, 20, 22, 25 and 26

Independent living Including: mental health laws and detention; health and social care provision. Articles 4.1(i), 16, 19, 20, 22, 25 and 26

Involvement Including: decision-making by national and local government; equality impact assessments; involvement of people who are housebound and those who live outside main cities; awareness of the Convention and involvement in implementation Articles 4.1(c), 4.3, 4.5 and 33.3

Participation in political / public life Including: representation of disabled people in national and local government; public appointments Article 29

Transport Including: accessible infrastructure and transport; planning and development stages of new transport projects; accessible transport in rural areas. Articles 9, 20

Welfare reform Including: changes to benefits; assessment arrangements; poverty and income levels; housing; ability to live independently; changes in social care provision and other local authority services. Articles 4.1(c), 9, 19 and 28

Work and training Including: disability-related bullying; barriers getting into work; high levels of discrimination in recruitment; barriers to staying in and getting on in work. Articles 8.2(a)(iii) and 27
