Presentation transcript:

 Democracy is a form of government in which the ruler is elected by the democracy.

China’s famine in 1958 – 1961 was the worst recorded famine in the world history where nearly 3 crore people died in this famine.

 India’s economic condition was not much better than china. Yet India did not have a famine of the kind china had.  Economists think that this was a result of different government policies in two countries.  The existence of democracy in India made the Indian government respond to the food scarcity in a way that the chineas government did not.

 Democracy is a form of government in which the ruler is elected by the people.  If china had a democratic government, they could have avoided the famine.  A non democratic government can respond to the needs of the people but it all depends on the wishes of the people who rule.  A democratic government is a better government because it is a more accountable form of government.

Democratic government is better than non democratic government because.. 1. Democracy is based on consultation and discussion. 2.A democratic decision always involves many persons discussions and meetings 3.When a number of people put there heads together they are able to point out possible mistakes in any discussion. 4.Democracy improves the quality of decision making.

 The different preferences of one group can clash with those of other groups.  how can we solve such a conflict ?  The conflict can be solved with brutal power.  Which ever group is more powerful will dictate its terms and the others have to accept it. This would lead to resentment and unhappiness.

 The only peaceful solution to this problem,  In a democracy, no one is a permanent winner nor loser  Different groups can live with one another peacefully.  In diverse country like India, democracy keeps our country together

 Democracy enhances the dignity of citizens.  Democracy is better than other forms of government because it allows to correct its own mistakes.  Such mistakes cannot hidden from the public  Either the ruler has to change their decisions, or the rulers can be changed. This cannot happen in a non democratic government.
