A tool for teacher and school to monitor in a reliable and systematic way: Purpose - the progress of individual learners throughout their (primary) school career - (aspects of) the quality of the school Recently Provide school boards with information about the learning outcomes of their schools

In conclusion (1) Cito’s Monitoring and Evaluation System is: A practical tool for teachers and schools to systematically monitor the quality of education. Recently also for school boards A system for (automatic) registration and reporting on 4 levels: Individual pupil Grade or cohort School Across schools

In conclusion (2) 95% of the Dutch primary schools use at least one of the tests of the system for purposes of self-evaluation Head teachers in the Netherlands regard self-evaluation as a useful and instructive undertaking But: accompanying process take a lot of time and causes many to hesitate when it comes to actually carrying out a self- evaluation.
