BY:PATTY SCHOLZ P.6 RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

WHAT DOES IT DO? The Respiratory system’s job is to supply blood with oxygen with the help of the circulatory system It takes in oxygen and releases Carbon Dioxide whenever something breathes

PARTS OF THE SYSTEM Epiglottis-Protects the Larynx and Lungs Larynx-Allows air to the lungs Vocal chords-Produces a person’s voice and Is located at the side of the larynx Trachea/Windpipe-Carries air to the lungs Lungs- Two sets of organs that oxygen goes through to get to the blood cell Diaphragm-It contracts to allow more air into the lungs

DIAGRAM OF THE SYSTEM

DISEASES AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM Ways that the Respiratory system can start failing is if the person inhales foreign bodies or cigarette smoke (Second- hand smoke). Those two things can cause an infection to the lungs, if in severe situations, can make them shut down. Don’t do stupid things like the cinnamon challenge. The cinnamon can get into your lungs and cause it to collapse. Don’t smoke and don’t stand near smokers Test your home for radon which is a rare but dangerous radioactive gas. Be careful of carcinogens, which are the things that cause cancer.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISEASES Asthma-Airways inflamed and can cause wheezing Allergies-Can trigger symptoms of Asthma Chronic Obstructive disease-Lung problems that can cause difficulty in breathing Bronchitis-Chronic productive cough Emphysema-Lung damages keep air trapped; difficulty in exhaling Cystic fibrosis-Poor clearance of mucus in the throat; can cause repeated lung infections

FINISHED All the systems of the human body are important, the Respiratory being one of the major systems in a functioning body. Please take care of your body as you would a loved one.
