Quality Assurance at the CAL Jane Rothert 2007 Field Operations Training Course

Site Supplies QA Internal Laboratory QA External Laboratory QA

Site Supplies QA AIRMoN and NTN use about 281 buckets, bottles, & lids per week 1 bucket checked for cleanliness per 47 shipped 1 1-L bottle checked per 64 shipped mL bottle checked per 104 shipped 1 lid check for 141 shipped

Water left in the buckets and/or bottles should be discarded before using!

Lid and bucket storage bags are checked for cleanliness 1 bag checked per 140 used

50 and 150 mL volumes 2 solutions used –DI water –Simulated Rainwater Control limits/charts

Additional Supplies that are Quality Assured DI Water used for standards Filters Sample bottles Total of 20 different supply checks per week

Internal Laboratory QA Standardization of instruments QA samples analyzed along with samples Replicates Internal Blind samples Reanalysis –Random –IPD/CPD

External Laboratory QA Interlaboratory Comparisons –NWRI –NILU –USGS –WMO/GAW

Conclusion: ~1% of supplies checked for cleanliness ~30% of analyses are QA samples
