Intelligence text

‘intelligence’ text: some critical questions If we accept that IQ tests are flawed, how does this weaken the argument for general intelligence? Why are some questions left unasked, e.g. Why are IQ tests still widely used, for example in the USA? If ‘g’ does not exist, why do people talk about it? Why are all the in-text references over 100 years old? Why are no references given for more recent claims, e.g. ‘Tests have been shown to be…’ – by whom? Why is the claim in the last sentence not evaluated?

Decide whether each item in the ‘Intelligence’ text is connected to heredity or environment Example: nature heredity nurture __________ inherited __________ surroundings __________ social inequalities __________ genetically __________ fixed from birth __________ education __________ cultural differences / culture __________ real-life situations __________ parental support __________

specific genetic compared associated originated inherited score nature nurture correlate cognitive criticize mathematical social essential educational cultural environmental European explain stimulation situation socialization reflect argument concept respectively significantly capacity heredity
