Traditional V.S. Hybrid Traditional 1 st Year Chinese Class Hybrid 1 st Year Chinese Class 5 credits 5 Meeting times Two lectures Three drills 4 Meeting times One digital learning hour Four drills

Hybrid First Year Chinese I Digital learning : Online study on Sakai – watching two videos – taking one online quiz before each new class WeChat time (every Friday afternoon)

You are about to start the second lesson of this hybrid course, how do you feel about learning Chinese in this format. Please pick one emotion from the checklist below and explain why. Anxiety Boredom Confusion Disappointment Enjoyment Hope Frustration Pride Relief Satisfaction

Students’ Feedback I like being able to replay the video if I need to hear pronunciation again. I like that I can repeat the pronunciation in my own room. I like that I can refer to the lesson whenever I need to. It is nice to be able to watch a video and then prove you understand concepts. The concepts are presented very well. I understand material very well after watching the videos usually.

I really enjoy the learning environment and the small class size. I enjoy talking to my classmates and learning Chinese in such a collaborative way. I also really enjoy not having class 5 days a week and the flexibility of this class

I like the pace of the class and the focus on speaking and pronunciation. I like that we learn the material outside of class and practice it in class. I like the small class size. This format has been good so far. Most of the concepts are a review, so it has been nice because if you don't understand you can rewatch as much as you want. But also if you understand the first time you don't have to re- do it.

Special Thanks to the Office of Digital Learning for Its Generous Support of the Course Development
