This legal concept of the courts deciding if a law was unconstitutional was established by the Supreme Court in Marbury v. Madison

This law passed in 1801 reorganized the court system, giving John Adams the opportunity to “pack” the courts.

This law, passed to try to protect American merchant ships and banning all trade with all foreign countries, was very unpopular in New England.

This legal concept said that states had the right to withdraw from the US if the national government overstepped is power.

This law forbad trade with Britain and France, but allowed trade with all other foreign nations.

The Barbary States were all located along this coast.
