I Corinthians 11:24-29 24And when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

I Corinthians 11:24-29 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

I Corinthians 11:24-29 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

I Corinthians 11:24-29 27So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

I Corinthians 11:24-29 28Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 29For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.

If I Remember Right: Forgetting Is A Terrible Thing Larry Cline - Hardin Valley Church Of Christ - 5/25/2014

There are events that we should never forget.

“I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” (Genesis 9:11)

“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” (Genesis 9:13)

6“In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord. 7When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” (Joshua 4:6-7)

Three Specific Events

1. The Feast Of The Passover Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. (Exodus 12:5)

One of the things we have forgotten today is that we are supposed to offer our best to God.

“Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe.” (Exodus 12:22)

“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn – both men and animals – and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.” (Exodus 12:12-13)

Jesus was our lamb that allows us to escape death! 14 ‘Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.’ (Exodus 12:14) Jesus was our lamb that allows us to escape death!

2. THE DAY OF WORSHIP

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” (Exodus 20:8) The Sabbath was a day of worship and rest that the Jews distorted over time. Mark 2:27, Acts 20:7

Worship and rest are to be the focus of “The Lord’s Day”

3. A Meal Of Remembrance

24and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” (I Corinthians 11:24-25)

Jesus was the fulfillment of a prophecy God had made centuries before through the prophet Jeremiah.

‘The time is coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will make a new covenant… I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people… For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.’ (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

“Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” (I Corinthians 11:26)

…16Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ? 17Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread. (I Corinthians 10:15-17)

The cross brings us all together.
