The Marks of the Church Holy: Jesus Christ in the Sacraments

The Four Marks of the Church One Holy Catholic Apostolic

Scripture The Apostles preached the Gospel to all nations, “Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

What does it mean to be HOLY? 1. “separate from all that is not sacred: set apart for God.” 2. Consecrated to God. Living in communion with God. 3. “whole” We become whole when we turn ourselves entirely over to God.

What does it mean to be HOLY? 1. Becoming holy is a life long process of cooperating with God’s grace. When we participate in the Eucharist and the other Sacraments, the Risen Christ walks with us and invites us to follow in his footsteps.

Scripture: The Road to Emmaus Why were Cleopas and his friend so discouraged on their way to Emmaus? Who was the stranger that joined them on their journey to Emmaus? How did Cleopas and his friend discover the identity of this stranger ? What things keep you from seeing Christ? Explain the statement: True faith does not simply involve physically “seeing”.

Scripture: The Road to Emmaus When we are together for the Eucharist we come together as one family, the one People of God. Jesus is present with us in the Eucharist. We are told that when “ two or three are gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20

Eucharist One of the seven sacraments Bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus Christ Central sacrament of the Church The source and summit of Christian life
