Scouts Australia New South Wales Get Out in New South Wales A participation badge scheme for the Scout Section

The Get Out scheme is a set of five new awards for Scouts in NSW that show we all Get Out in Scouting. This set of 5 graded awards recognise and reward Scouts of all ages for taking part in Scouting outdoor activities. These awards are for participation rather than for showing a level of skill or competence.

All awards are a small cloth badge that can be worn on the uniform above the flap of the left pocket.

The Troop Council approves the awards. Camp and hike logs should be maintained for each member. The badges may only be worn by Scout Section members in NSW. They must be removed on transfer. Check the award details because each hike or camp can only count towards one of the awards.

The Camper Award This award is earned according to the number of nights a Scout camps, under canvas, as a Scout. There are five awards in the series: 10 nights 25 nights 50 nights 75 nights 100 nights Only the top award earned is worn. After 100 nights, additional awards of 25 nights can be added. Conditions apply – read the details in the guide.

The Walkabout Scout Award This award is earned according to the number of kilometres a Scout hikes, as a Scout. There are five awards in the series: 10km 50km 100km 150km 200km Only the top award earned is worn. After 200 km, additional awards of 50km can be added. Conditions apply – read the details in the guide.

The Walkabout Scout Award The minimum distance for a qualifying hike is 3km for the first award, then 10km for each of the others. Bike and canoe hikes are acceptable – but the expected distance is doubled – 10km becomes 20km. A log book insert for the green Record Books is now available with the scheme promotional materials. Conditions apply – read the details in the guide.

The Region Activity Award This award is earned each time a Scout participates in a major Region outdoor event with their Troop. There are four awards in the series as only one can be earned in any calendar year. The event must be organised by a Scout Region – District, Group and State events do not qualify. Conditions apply – read the details in the guide.

The Jamboree Participation Award This ‘Jamboree miniature’ may be worn after a Scout attends an Australian Jamboree, as a Scout. It is not related to the Jamboree badge or the Jamboree Award – it is purely for participation in the event. The luckiest Scouts who get to attend 2 Australian Jamborees may wear 2 awards. Conditions apply – read the details in the guide.

The Jam-packed Award This award is designed to promote the versatility of camping and hiking in the Scout Section. It is also a great way to get ready for the next Australian Jamboree by packing in 12 camp nights in 12 months. Each camp night can only count towards one part of the award. There are different types of camp to try. Conditions apply – read the details in the guide.

The Jam-packed Award The camp nights must include 2 hikes of at least one night each 1 hike that is themed in some way 1 Group/District/Region/State camp or hike 1 Patrol camp or hike 1 adventurous activity camp 1 camp of at least 3 nights under canvas Conditions apply – read the details in the guide.

Record book inserts For participants A set of soft copy resources are available to support the implementation of the scheme: Single page flyer For youth members Summary guide For Troop Councils Full guide For DSLs / Commissioners
