Supporting further and higher education 2 What does development mean? Work directed towards innovation in -- and improvement of -- products, processes, and services. Applied, not blue-skies. Funded through top-sliced money, therefore activities must represent value for money for institutions.

Supporting further and higher education 3 What are JISC development programmes? Project-based activities in colleges and universities, or work commissioned from specialists, linked by a theme Aims vary and include developing new products and services, investigating issues of emerging importance for the sectors, or building collaborative relationships Outputs vary and include reports, content, software, guidelines, toolsets, project management resources, learning, and relationships

Supporting further and higher education 4 JISC Development Programmes Offer Activities that support and inform priority issues for institutions Opportunities to accelerate and facilitate institutional experimentation Wider sharing of learning gained through institutional experimentation Contributions to the development of national services

Supporting further and higher education 5 Development Projects Projects underway in key areas: –Access to Content and Applications (Digital Preservation, Information Environment + Middleware) –Institutional Embedding –Network –Learning Environments –Research Environments All these activities are about tailoring the web for learning, teaching and research.
