BOE/Work Break Down The following slides provide a high level view of the BOE/WBS structure of the proposed NSIDC DAAC Contract

MANAGEMENT Provide program-wide administration of the NSIDC DAAC.  Establish, approve, coordinate and prioritize programs and projects of the DAAC  Assure DAAC programs and projects are completed on time and on budget  Oversee DAAC financial, HR, and office support functions Provide program-wide liaison with external organizations Maintain and coordinate the DAAC User Working Group (UWG)

INFRASTRUCTURE Provide DAAC-wide infrastructure support  Website administration and website content administration. Website compliance with NASA directives  Systems and Facilities Security administration: coordinate center-wide IT security  Systems and Networks Administration: maintain and administer non-ECS and ECS computer systems and software  Facilities Administration

USER SUPPORT Provide user services to all NSIDC DAAC users, with levels of service determined by the specific data set or information product  User support services; staff and operate user help desk. Provide staff to support data and information referrals Provide media distribution services  Participate in USWG and it's subgroups. Staff ESDIS conference booth, staff NSIDC conference booth  Coordinate NSIDC user services with other DAACs and other Data Centers  Provide outreach support to ESDIS mandated outreach efforts.  Provide standardized metadata and technical documentation, Provide standardized web content on NSIDC DAAC website

ENGINEERING Provide sustaining and development engineering support to the DAAC V0 (non-ECS) and ECS environments Sustaining engineering: schedule install and check out upgrades to operating systems, COTS packages  Assess DAAC IT resource needs, acquire IT resources,  Develop and/or modify database schema as needed for data set additions and deletions  Provide configuration management of ECS and non-ECS systems, maintain inventory of non-ECS computing equipment Development engineering: plan and develop augmentations to NSIDC DAAC computing and networking environment as required by user and data set demand Acquire and attend specialized training as required to fulfill engineering functions

SCIENCE OPERATIONS AMSR-E  Provide ingest, archive, and distribution services for the AMSR-E data sets and products from the Aqua Satellite  Provide user services for all products of the AMSR-E SCF that are delivered to the NSIDC DAAC  Improve data and metadata access and system usability  Convey user community needs to the AMSR-E Science Team and UWG  Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users  Continue development of user tools to enhance data utility  Maintain data set documentation and ESDTs

SCIENCE OPERATIONS ADEOS AMSR  Provide ingest, archive, and distribution services for the AMSR L1A data set from ADEOS II  Provide user services for all products of AMSR on ADEOS II that are delivered to the NSIDC DAAC  Improve data and metadata access and system usability  Convey user community needs to the NASDA AMSR management and UWG  Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users  Continue development of user tools to enhance data utility  Maintain data set documentation and ESDTs

SCIENCE OPERATIONS MODIS - TERRA  Provide ingest, archive, and distribution services for the MODIS snow and ice data sets from the Terra Satellite  Provide user services for all snow and ice products of MODIS that are delivered to the NSIDC DAAC  Improve data and metadata access and system usability  Convey user community needs to the MODIS Science Team and UWG  Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users  Continue development of user tools to enhance data utility  Maintain data set documentation and ESDTs

Solicit priorities from the UWG Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users Continue development of user tools to enhance data utility Maintain data set documentation and when appropriate ESDTs

Solicit priorities from the UWG Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users Continue development of user tools to enhance data utility Maintain data set documentation and when appropriate ESDTs

SCIENCE OPERATIONS ACTIVE MICROWAVE  RADARSAT ANTARCTIC MOSAIC  POLAR SCATTEROMETRY  RADAR ALTIMETRY Provide ingest, production, archive, and distribution services for Active Microwave snow and ice data sets at the NSIDC DAAC Provide user services for all Active Microwave snow and ice products that are maintained by the NSIDC DAAC Improve data and metadata access and system usability Communicate data priorities to the DAAC User Working Group. Solicit priorities from the UWG Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users Continue development of user tools to enhance data utility Maintain data set documentation and when appropriate ESDTs

SCIENCE OPERATIONS DAAC WEBSITE CONTENT  GENERAL USER WEB CONTENT  State of the Cryosphere (SOTC)  CATALOG-METADATA  Manage, develop, revise and maintain information content for the NSIDC DAAC website  Develop and/or modify the NSIDC DAAC website logical structure and content  Coordinate NSIDC DAAC website with the NSIDC- wide website, DAAC Alliance website, Instrument Team websites and other appropriate NASA websites

SCIENCE OPERATIONS SPECIAL INFORMATION PROJECTS  DAAC ANNUAL  CROSS DAAC WEBSITE  NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT Special Information Projects (SIP) include assigned information products and/or related development and operational tasks Provide management, editing, story development and production of the DAAC Annual Provide management, development and maintenance of the Alliance Website Communicate SIP data priorities to the DAAC User Working Group. Solicit priorities from the UWG Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users

SCIENCE OPERATIONS SPECIAL SCIENCE PROJECTS  GLIMS  NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT Special Science Projects (SSP) include specifically assigned data set development and/or operational data management tasks that are not part of other BOEs Provide ingest, production, archive, and distribution of data sets developed as SSPs Provide user services for SSP data sets that are maintained by the NSIDC DAAC Communicate SSP data priorities to the DAAC User Working Group. Solicit priorities from the UWG Provide outreach efforts to attract new users and evaluate needs of current users Continue maintenance of the GLIMS data base Maintain data set documentation and when appropriate ESDTs

SCIENCE OPERATIONS LONG TERM ARCHIVAL  Develop, maintain and revise the NSIDC DAAC Long Term Archival Plan  Coordinate NSIDC LTA activities with NASA and NOAA counterparts  Maintain the NSIDC DAAC Off-site data repository
