Aerobic endurance aerobic endurance is where you run around for a long period of time without getting tired. Michael Jordan is a famous basketball player who needs aerobic endurance other wise he wouldn’t be able to play for the whole game, him having good aerobic endurance helps him preform at his best. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Muscular endurance Muscular endurance is the ability to do muscle work or maintain effort over a prolonged period of time. you would need this for jumping and shooting because by the second half your muscles would have worn out and you would be tired and not as able to jump as high this might mean ypou cant get the ball. magic Johnson is an ex basketball player he would need muscular endurance so that he can jump high and shoot far for the entire game. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

speed Speed is the ability to perform a movement quickly-you use speed when running back and forth down the court or when you go to do a running shot. Shaquille O'Neal would need speed so that he can run up and down the court and get the ball before the other players this will help his team to win. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Flexibility Flexibility is defined as the range of movement around the joint. You would need this in basketball for when you reach up to shoot. Patrick Ewing would need flexibility so that he can jump and get the ball so that he can get higher and far jumps. The further he can reach the more powerful his shots are. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

strength Strength is to exert a force against a resistance-you have to use power to be able to jump and put the ball through the hoop. Tim Duncan would need strength so that he had more power to throw the ball and jump and put the ball in the hoop from further away. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Body composition Body composition is the amount of fat mass relative to fat free mass. You need to be slim and muscular to be able to jump up and run around when playing basketball. From the picture you can see that they are muscular and slim. If the performers were over weight they would not be able to move as quick or be as agile. if you were really skinny you wouldn’t have the strength to jump. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Agility Agility is the ability to change direction rapidly. You would need this in basketball because you haven't got much room to move so you would have to be quick when moving. Kevin durrat would need agility so that he can direction quickly and he can get around small spaces.this might mean that his team can pass to him more often. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

balance The ablity to control the body's position either stationary or while moving. you would need this in basketball for when you land a jump to be able to keep both feet on the ground and still. Power Power is a combination of speed and strength. It is used in basketball for when they either run down the court with the ball or if they try and snatch the ball for the other team. Power could be used when jumping for a rebound, the more powerful you are the higher you can jump therefore the more chance of you getting the ball. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Reaction time Reaction time is the time it takes for the person to respond to the stimulus. A basketball player would Need this for when the whistle goes to start the game and for when they throw the ball in the air. Coordination Cordination is where you move and use 2 body parts at once-you need this to be able to dribble and see what your doing. Kobe Bryant would need coordination so that as he can dribble the ball and and get it too the hoop at the same time. He uses his hands and his eyes. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Aerobic endurance-training method To improve aerobic endurance you could use continuous training were you train without stopping. To run around a field or a route for about 1 hour without stopping. You do it 3 times a week for 8 weeks to see an improvement. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Strength-training method To train strength we would use weight training, weight training is where you lift weights to build up muscles. You could do a 1 hour session 3 times a week for eight weeks. By using dumbbells, medicine balls, chest press, leg extension and calf raise for both upper and lower body strength.you need strength in your legs for running and jumping and you need strength in your arms to pass the ball. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball

Flexibility-training method To train flexibility we could use yoga or PNF stretching. Both methods involve stretching the muscles further then you normally would to increase the range of movement. You could do an hour session 3 times a week for 8 weeks to improve flexibility. Better flexibility will lead to more powerful actions. ref:class notes-bay house learning uk basketball
