Advanced product planning: Systemic definition of new product requirements Georgia Fotaki

Agenda Overview of the Method Related Literature Process Deliverable Diagram (PDD) Example of the method

Overview of the Method  A new method for systemic definition of new product requirements  Developed and distributed in 2006, by the lecturers of the University of Leeds; Dr. Agouridas, Dr. McKay and. Dr de Pennigton, and the vice president of Rolls Royce, Henri Winand.  Based on principles of system engineering.  Facilitates the identification and analysis of the requirements of customers and other stakeholders.  Design of product requirements.  Assisting tool for product development teams.

Main activities Perceived Solution Product Requirement Design Requirement Expressed Stakeholder Requirement Stakeholder Requirement Revision of product requirements Analysis of stakeholder requirements Derivation of design requirements Functional Requirement Global Constraint Design Requirement Stakeholder Attribute Mapping Relationship Stakeholder need

Related Literature  Two dominant product development models that support system approaches for product planning:  Integrated Product Development (IPD) - Defined by Andreasen and Heijn in phases for design requirements stemming from stakeholders analysis.  System Engineering and Integration -Defined by the International Council on Systems Engineering. - Identification, documentation, definition of the stakeholder requirements. - Clear structure, but limited success.  Method evaluation through studies drawn from health sector and fast moving consumer sector.
