West Forsyth High School National Honor Society Application Information

Copy of Application Each application will be numbered so that it can be reviewed anonymously when returned. Students will sign for the application when they pick it up in the library in Mrs. Ebert’s office.

Essential Requirements Please confirm that your student’s cumulative unweighted GPA is 3.2. All GPA’s will be confirmed by the sponsors prior to being sent to faculty council for review, so any application that does not meet this minimum requirement will not be considered at this point. The National Honor Society Handbook ( Leadership) establishes leadership as “highly important for membership selection.” No application will be considered without a verifiable leadership activity.

Frequently Asked Questions Do travel sports, competitive dance, and other activities for which I pay to participate count as community? Yes, you may include these activities as community with a maximum total of 10 points. Do I have to explain all my points? You should give a detailed description for your points, especially those that are community related. Without a description, committee members may disallow an activity. Even if it seems self-explanatory, provide your own description. Does my leadership position have to be from West? No, your leadership position may also come from a community activity; you will still include it on the leadership page.

Juniors: 20 points Seniors: 24 points What if I don’t write the essay or submit it to Turn-It-In by the deadline? You will not be considered for membership at this time. May I use the same activities on more than one page? That depends; an example of when you could include the same activity in 2 places would be if you are captain of the football team, and you won the coach’s award last year. You could receive a point for West athletics, a leadership position point, and an award point. Does straight A’s for one quarter count as an award? No, you must make straight A’s for the semester.
