The Printing Press Before the invention of the printing-press, very few people knew how to read. In 1952, Johan Guttenberg invented the printing-press. He cut wood in the shape of letters. Put them together to words and sentences. Covered them with ink and presses paper on top of them. The first book that Guttenberg printed was the Bible.
