Terms to Know Huguenots- members of the Protestant church in France. Inquisition-a period of prolonged questioning or investigation.

Dissenters before Martin Luther John Wyclif-late 1300s Jan Hus-early 1400s Both attacked the excessive power of the Pope. Hus was burned at the stake for heresy.

Reformation in Germany (HRE) The Hapsburgs, (ruling family since the 10 th century) remained loyal to the Catholic church. Princes in Northern Germany converted to Protestantism. Result: Conflicts throughout Germany. (Thirty Years War) Chalres V-Holy Roman Emperor
