The career of a Psychiatrist begins with medical school for four years Once medical school is complete a four year residency in behavioral health is next A license is presented upon completion of residency A Psychiatrist has a license to practice medicine

Must complete five to seven years of graduate study Obtain a Doctorate (Ph.D or Psy.D) in order to be licensed and certified within the state one is planning to practice in.
