BSc Healthcare Science A number of themes Life Sciences Physical Sciences Physiological Sciences Each of with has a number of pathways available

BSc Healthcare Science at Nottingham Trent University Are being accredited for Life Sciences only Blood Sciences Cellular Sciences Infection Sciences

BSc Healthcare Science at DeMontfort Uniiversity Are being accredited for Life Sciences, CR&S Sciences, Neurosensory Sciences, Medical Physics All Medical Physics pathways - MEE All CR&S pathways - MEE Life Sciences/Neurophysiology - pending MEE

BSc Healthcare Science – PTP Education Integrated degree 50 weeks placement in 3 years Most academic content shared with other programmes, eg Biomedical Science New modules needed in each academic year Some teaching will have to be double delivered

BSc Healthcare Science – PTP Training 10 weeks placement in year 1 15 weeks placement in year 2 25 weeks placement in year 3 Training will be delivered on site at the placement supported by the HEI Students will complete training/portfolio to allow regulation/registration on graduation

BSc Healthcare Science – issues for HEI Security of placements for all 3 years Lack of financial support / time for part time work for students Small cohort size New modules required that are not cost effective – especially year 3 Lack of input into curriculum / programme design

BSc Healthcare Science – issues for HEI Placements must be concurrent with or follow academic content of the degree Lack of flexibility Uncertainty of student outcome relating to registration etc Employment prospects for students Long term sustainability

BSc Healthcare Science – issues for service Timing and length of placements not flexible Lack of clarity on student outcome relating to registration / regulation Predicting availability of placements each year Bunching of students on placement Long term sustainability

BSc Healthcare Science – solutions? DMU and NTU are working together to develop common professional practice modules Discussions between service and HEIs on placement availability etc Both universities seeking MEE accreditation HEIs working with early adopters
