Time Management – Strength or Weakness One of the major factors you would consider in a SWOT analysis is time management. Is it a strength or a weakness for you. Good time management ties together all of the core criteria. What tools do you use to allocate your time to a task? Diary Gantt Chart Must remember to do … Oops, I forgot ….

Listing Tasks for assignments Using your assessment criteria can you list the tasks you need to do. For each task can you identify sub-tasks. Do you create a priority list and keep it in front on you.

Identify your tasks each week What do you have to achieve this week, this month, this year Can you list your weekly tasks in order of priority. Do you have a backup plan if things go wrong; eg illness etc.

Your Plan Have you considered using Excel to draw up your own plan.

Managing your time Summarising your time use allows you to understand how much time you really spend in the various areas of your life. Can you identify what you have done each day this week in terms of: Study (attendance at University) Study (self study and learning) Relaxation (very important to clear the mind) Anything else ….

“… fully half of the 168 hours available in a week (that is, on average 84 of those hours) are used up for the "basics", including sleeping, eating, washing and beautifying, and commuting from home to school and to work. (Robinson and Godbey, 1997) How will you spend the remaining 84 hours per week? ” Time Awareness and Time Tracking University of York [online] [accessed 14th November 2007]

The great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in five words: “ I did not have time ” Ref Frank Field Available on About.com [online] [accessed 14 th November 2007] “ There is time for everything ” Ref Thomas Edison Available on About.com [online] [accessed 14 th November 2007]
