Joshua 6th book of the Bible Meaning: the conquest of the land promised is a prophecy of the spiritual conquest of the world through the church under the leadership of Jesus the Messiah Purpose:After Moses’ death the leadership of the nation passed into the hands of Joshua To show God’s fidelity in giving Israel the land promised. Main Ideas: Joshua mobilized his forces and prepared them for battle. They crossed the

Joshua continued Jordan River and the battles began. There were 3 battles fought.North, South, Central regions. After the victories the land was divided among the various tribes of Israel. Joshua then exhorted the people and died in peace.

Judges 7th book Meaning: To show that Israel’s fate depends on her obedience to God (four-fold cycle) Israel sins>Yahweh Punishes Israel repents>Yahweh forgives To show how Israel lived and grew from the death of Joshua to the era of the Kings.

More Judges Main Ideas: Judges are gifted natural leaders Defend Israel Uphold Israel’s honor Lead the people back to God Are a product of their time Judges lead a single tribe of Israel at at time, the never had authority over the entire nation Judges are divided into Major and Minor Judges

Samson and the Lion “Out of the eater came forth food, and out of the strong came forth sweetness” What is sweeter than honey, and what is stronger than a lion?”

Ruth 8th book of the Bible The book is names after the Moabite woman who was joined to the Israelite people by her marriage with the influential Boaz of Bethlehem. This story is a beautiful example of filial piety ( family loyalty). This book is pleasing to the Hebrews because of its connection to David. The line of ancestors for Jesus is begun.

More Ruth Purpose; To show the divine reward for family loyalty even when practiced by a stranger Ruth’s spirit of self-sacrifice and her moral integrity were favored by god with the gift of faith and an illustrious mariage whereby she became the ancestress of David and of Jesus The Messiah came to save all is foreshadowed.

More Ruth The family connection Ruth + Boaz = Obed From Obed comes Jesse From Jesse come David From the house of David comes Jesus Christ
