Class Period: ______ Crimean War Radio Broadcast Project Project: Your group will be producing a series of radio broadcasts from Europe and the Balkan Peninsula that will update the European people on the events of the Crimean War. Each group member will be taking on one reporting role listed below. While these events had an effect over a 2o some year period, your group will be condensing them into a single radio broadcast for the purpose of simplicity. Role: Program Host & Report on The Eastern Crisis of [Group Leader] This person will be hosting the radio program. They will do the opening of the program, introduce each of the foreign correspondents, and close the program by reporting on the Eastern Crisis Group Member: _________________________ Role: Foreign Correspondent (reporting from the Suez) This person will be reporting on the Suez Canal. Group Member: _________________________ Role: Foreign Correspondent (reporting from Russo Turkish War of ) This person will be reporting on the Russo Turkish War of Group Member: _________________________ Role: Foreign Correspondent (reporting from Berlin) This person will be reporting on the Congress of Berlin. Group Member: _________________________ Role: Foreign Correspondent (Reporting from San Stefano) This person will be reporting on the Treaty of San Stefano. Group Member: _________________________

Steps to Complete Project:  Each group member should choose a role described on the front of this page.  Each group member should research their role, so that they can speak intelligently & demonstrate a strong understanding of the event during their radio report.  As a group, you should create a script of your radio full radio broadcast. Each group member should be responsible for researching and writing their part of the script. It is a group project, but you will be graded individually based on your portion of the broadcast and your script. Make sure you pay attention to what information you must include!  After you have your script you should rehearse/practice it to make sure it sounds good. This is the REQUIRED format that your radio broadcast MUST follow: 1.Introduction to the radio news broadcast by the program host 2.Program host transitions to first correspondent (from The Besika Bay) 3.First foreign correspondent’s report from Besika Bay 4.Program host transitions to second correspondent (Northern Analtolia) 5.Second foreign correspondent’s report from Northern Analtolia 6.Third foreign correspondent’s report from The Ukraine 7.Program host Reports on breaking news from the Balkans. The Eastern Crisis 8.Program host thanks the listeners and signs off  To record your radio broadcast you are going to use one group member’s cell phone. If you have an iPhone, use the “Voice Memo” app to record your radio broadcast. If you have some other type of phone, I have no idea what works best. *Remember… speak(clearly, loudly, & confidently) Once you have recorded your radio broadcast, you can submit it two different ways: Send it in an from your phone to (please include your group member’s names in the ) Send it in a text message. In the space where you put the phone number, put (please include your group member’s names in the text message) and send it.  When you are finished, your group leader should collect this cover page and each group member’s script. Staple all 5 pages together and turn in your script to the tray.

Role: Program Host & Report on the Eastern Crisis of [Group Leader] You will be hosting the radio program & reporting on the Eastern Crisis. Your Part of the Script & Radio Broadcast You MUST:  Open the radio program by telling everyone your name, where you are broadcasting from (must be in Europe), and summarizing what people will be hearing from your correspondents during your radio broadcast.  Introduce each of your 3 foreign correspondents before they come on the air (make sure you at least tell us their name and where they are reporting from).  Transition between each of your foreign correspondents. Thanking the previous reporter and introducing the next.  Report the breaking news from the Balkans.  Describe the situation, giving details  Describe what the situation has caused.  Predict what the effects this attack will have on the Europe and the Middle East.  End the program, thank the listeners, and sign off. Your Part of the Script & Radio Broadcast You MUST:  Tell everyone you name, where you are reporting from, what you are reporting about and who is involved.  Describe the scene in detail.  Tell the listeners what it is like in around the canal at the moment. Make sure to describe what you are seeing and hearing. Be descriptive.  Be sure, in your report, to describe the transfer of power between British, French and Egyptians. Assume your listeners know nothing about it and you are teaching it to them for the very first time.  Predict what the future holds for the canal. What do you think will happen to places like Romania, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Bulgaria.  Describe the results of the war  With the areasconquered by the Russians, predict what the future holds for Europe and the Balkans. Make sure to describe what you are seeing and hearing.  Be sure to describe the conversations between the Russians, Ottomans, and the Balkan nations of Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro.  Predict what the future holds for the Balkan Peninsula and the balance of power in Europe.
