P ENGUINS
The penguin is a bird which lives on a cold continent. It can’t fly but it is a champion in swimming.
The penguin looks chubby because under its feathers there is a thick layer of fat that protects him from the cold. The penguin stands straight and tall on its strong feet. His feathers are waterproof, so it if not afraid of getting wet. His wings are too small for flying, but they help the bird to swim and glide through the water like a fish.
Penguins go fishing far away from their families. Sometimes they make a long way to the ocean, and march in a straight line one after another not to get lost. To move more quickly on the ice the penguins glide on their stomachs, pushing with their strong feet.
Males help females to keep the egg warm on its big feet when the chick hatches out of the egg, a female starts to take care of it and a hungry female goes to catch fish to eat. When the chick is two month old, it is big enough to play with other penguins. But grown up penguins always keep an eye on their babies.
