The five-year grant ( ) from the U.S. Dept. of Education will result in:  increased academic achievement and readiness for college/career for students with disabilities (SWD)  increased student communication capacity  decreased achievement gaps for SWD  enhanced regional PD delivery system with more capacity to serve districts and schools 14 State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG)

1.Better prepare all students with disabilities to reach proficiency and graduate from high school ready for college and careers through increased academic (reading and math) achievement and closing existing achievement gaps 2.Better prepare students with low incidence disabilities to reach proficiency and graduate from high school ready for college and careers through increased and enhanced academic achievement, communication capacity, and transition opportunities For more information, contact: 15 KY SPDG Goals

As you plan for students with disabilities (SWD) as part of your district’s comprehensive improvement planning process, keep in mind that: Special education is a service, not a place SWD are regular education students who receive special education services The DoSE and special educators are critical partners as you develop specific and intentional plans for closing gaps for SWD 16 Comprehensive Improvement Planning and Students with Disabilities

DoSE and special educators play a critical role in district improvement planning by: Sharing successful processes around improvement planning for SWD. Reviewing and analyzing district data for SWD. Identifying root causes for the district’s performance through use of the investigative questions from the ASSIST Special Education Guidance Document. Suggesting activities from the ASSIST Special Education Guidance Document to close gaps for SWD. 17 Comprehensive Improvement Planning and Students with Disabilities

Follow the link below for more information and resources around comprehensive improvement planning for schools and districts: If you have questions or need support around planning for SWD, please contact your Regional Director of Special Education at your educational cooperative, or 18 Comprehensive Improvement Planning and Students with Disabilities
