Required Dress Shoes Absolutely No Open Toed Shoes or Sandals allowed in lab NO shoes NO LAB!!!!

Required Dress (cont) EYES Goggles must be worn at all times during lab NO – eye glasses do not count Contacts ? LAB Apron Your lab apron must be on for the duration of the lab including cleanup

Types of Goggles We will use these

Required Dress (cont) Miscellaneous Long pants required No shorts, capris or skirts in lab NO bulky clothing Sweatshirts, coats, jackets Long sleeve shirts OK No long or dangling jewelry Tie back long hair Only when open flame used Gloves If needed – I will provide

General Conduct 1. NO HORSEPLAY!!!! Horseplay = 0 for lab grade 2. NO food, drink, or gum in lab 3. No labs conducted without ME present

Basic Lab Procedures Always read ALL of your lab procedures before beginning Inform your teacher of ANY and ALL accidents ALWAYS perform the experiment as instructed Never leave an experiment in progress Never taste or directly smell anything in lab unless instructed to do so

Basic Lab Procedures Know emergency procedures Keep your work station clear DO NOT leave lit bunsen burners unattended Do not catch falling objects NEVER point the open end of a test tube at yourself or anyone else

Basic Lab Procedures Be careful handling hot glassware Turn off all heating apparatus when not in use Do not remove any lab supplies from the room Keep your lab station free of clutter Never pour water into acids – pour acid into water Always ask before disposing of chemicals – not all can be washed down the drain Broken glassware goes in the proper container – NOT the trash can

Last but not Least Before you Leave Clean your lab area Wash your hands with soap and water

Basic Emergency Procedures Know the location of all exits in the laboratory Know the school emergency evacuation plans If an emergency in the lab listen to teacher instructions Emergency Plan – I will designate students for this. Know procedures for school lock-down plans
