Presentation transcript:

 1. Sam has a book shelf that is 848 mm long. How many 24 mm books can he fit on this shelf? 2. Find the quotient:

 Today I will find quotients of word problems involving multi-digit divisors.  Today I will review key vocabulary that pertains to division.  Today I will learn how to interpret the remainders of division problems in real-life situations.

 Each lifeboat holds 4 people and we have 22 people. We would need 6 lifeboats to carry all the people to safety – not 5 R2 lifeboats. (so round up!)  If you are measuring to divide a 19 inch piece of fabric into 5 inch pieces, how many pieces can you cut? 3 – 5 inch pieces not 3 R4. You would just use the remaining 4 inches for something else or discard the extra.

 Working with your group, you will solve the round robin division problems. Be sure and sign your name for each problem that you solve. You will be passing your paper to the person to your left in your group.  Please raise your hand if you have questions!!  All work will be collected!

 A shelf is 31 inches long. How many 2-inch textbooks can fit on the shelf?   Estimate:_____________   Work:   Answer:______________   How did you get your answer?

 There are 1,601 people in line for the Goliath. If each ride takes 30 people, how many times does the ride have to run for everyone to have a turn?  Estimate:_____________   Work:   Answer:______________   How did you get your answer?

 Donovan has a piece of string that is 45 inches long. How many 4-inch strings can he cut off of it?   Estimate:_____________   Work:   Answer:______________   How did you get your answer?

 A library just received 215 new books. If each shelf holds 20 books, how many shelves are needed for the new books?   Estimate:_____________   Work:   Answer:______________   How did you get your answer?

 Go to page 23 of your MSG.  Let’s work the first Silly Sally problem together.  Tonight, work the 2 nd Silly Sally problem and STUDY for your Long Division Quiz tomorrow. Long division, word problems and the terms quotient, divisor and dividend will be on the quiz.

 This is a piece of cake!!!

 Zach bought two new jet skis for $15,480. He will make 36 equal payments. How much will each payment be?

 Page 48 in your math book.  Work #1, 2, 3 and 4 on white boards with the class. Record your work also in your math book.  Raise your hand immediately if you have questions!!  You CAN DO THIS!

Copy and solve: 26 Label the quotient, divisor, dividend!  Homework! Page #51 (# and #28)  You MUST show all work in the book or on separate paper to get credit!!!  Remember, you CAN write in the book! 4340
