What is Statistics?  Statistics is the studying of the collection, analysis, organization, and interpretation of data.

Why is Statistics Important?  Statistics are important like I had said do to the use and application of it. And in some cases Statistics are used to show validity of something not just presenting a collection of data.  Examples of Statistics  - In sports like baseball for runs and on base percentages.  - In Government surveys.  - Even are seen on the News (but be carful do to them only using portions of the collected data to shape a view).

Why am I Interested in Statistics?  I'm interested in it due to the great field of application that statistics are used in our daily lives. And that lots of people may not even know that there are statistics all around us.

History of Statistics  The History of statistics date back to about the 5 th century BC which was the start of statistical methods. But it is unknown exactly when it started.  But in the 9 th century a book on statistics appeared which was titled “Manuscript on Deciphering Cryptographic Messages” written by a man named Al- Kindi.

History continued…  Shakespeare used the word “statist” in the play of Hamlet, in  In 1771 W. Hooper used the word statistics in his translation meaning it’s the science of all states of matter in our known world.  20 th century William Gosset developed a method of decision making base on small sets of data.

The Importance of Statistics again… and The Summary!  So the importance of statistics is that we see and use them in our day to day lives. Maybe not every day but many jobs are driven by statistics.  And Statistics is a field of mathematics that is still growing and forming new theories with the help of our technological age of society. Which is helping many fields of science, sales, and product production.

Interesting Facts! Sport Statistics and more!  There are two kinds of statistics type 1 descriptive statistics which is the collection of data. Type 2 Inferential statistics which is the techniques used for the analysis of data.  more than 6 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day (worldwide). That is twice as much as the time spent on Google.  Total number of people on average over the age of 16 that hunt annually in the United States is 12.5 million.
