SRRE Presentations H9

Part A: Speech 1. Introduction 2. Plot Summary + Analysis of 1 Major Literary/Stylistic Device 3.Author Information 4. Conclusion-To Read…Or Not to Read? Total Max Time= 3minutes 30 seconds

Speech Due Dates Complete first draft of speech due FRIDAY 5/9 Practice Practice Practice over the weekend! Complete final draft TYPED/MLA FORMATTED due TUESDAY 5/13 (the day you present)

Presenting Your Speech We will start (and try to finish) presentations on 5/13 You MAY NOT read from a copy of your speech during your presentation delivery Notecards/PowerPoint Slides printed out to HELP you remember your INTENDED speech are allowed (maximum 3 notecards/1 sided) Practice is essential- it is all about how you SELL your THESIS (if you stray from your pre-planned speech a bit that is OK- but I should be able to see that the MAJORITY of your speech was preplanned when I compare your presentation with your final draft)

Speaking Tips The best way to practice your speech is to present it aloud—again and again. Try speaking in front of a mirror so you can evaluate and improve your posture, gestures, eye contact, and use of visual aids. You might tape-record a practice session so you can critique your voice quality and effectiveness.

The Full Package 1. Use your voice effectively. Speak loudly enough to be heard, but vary your pitch and tone. 2. Maintain eye contact. Look directly at a member of the audience while you speak, moving your eyes from person to person.

The Full Package 3. Incorporate gestures and facial expressions. Let your emotions show in your face—particularly in your eyes and mouth. 4. Use visual aids. (AKA YOUR POWERPOINT)

Part B: The PowerPoint Due to turnitin.com by Monday night 5/12 (midnight) A. Follow the same order as your speech B. Include relevant images on each slide to support your speaking points C. Include at least 1 significant quote from your novel YOU MUST INCLUDE A PARENTHETICAL CITATION FOR YOUR QUOTE

Flash Drive Success You MUST provide your PowerPoint on a flash drive on the day of presentations 5/13

NEVER Turn your back to the audience and read from your slides- you MUST know your slides well enough to continue speaking without relying on them! Practice Practice Practice! Do NOT PROCRASTINATE on this assignment!

Questions? Time to Draft!
