Base Words A root word is a word in its simplest form. A root word has nothing added to it. Examples: Part Ground Write Read Quiet

Prefixes Prefixes are added to the beginning of a root word. They change the meaning of the root word. Examples: Un + happy = unhappy Re + do = redo
