Presentation transcript:

So, what is your final test of the year? Something that will display your true understanding of how literature unites us all, how literature embodies the virtues and the faults of the human race.. This is the Oxford Essay. May the odds be ever in your favor...

The Oxford Essay The Oxford Essay Your task. Your task. Your task.. Your task... The Odyssey, and Romeo and Juliet are in our textbooks. I have copies of A Separate Peace, and Of Mice and Men. If you plan to use A Long Way Gone or Jane Eyre, you will need to bring your own copies of these to class on Monday and Tuesday.

Writing an effective literary analysis - Make sure you have a clearly stated thesis: 1. Include the “word” you have been given 2. Include the pieces of literature you will discuss 3. Give a brief introduction of how it is important Ex: _______, __________, and _________ all how the concept/idea of _________ is important in literature and in life. Ex: The power of ________ is clearly demonstrated in __________, _________, and ________ by the way the characters react under certain circumstances. -Make sure you have 3 quotes (1 per piece of literature you use). These quotes need to be RELEVANT! - Use your short answer response skills! -Make sure you actually analyze the importance of your concept don’t just give a plot summary! - Again, short answer skills!
