Rio Tinto

* Many centuries ago, there were many battles in our territory. One of them was between Christians and Muslims. In this battle most of the soldiers were wounded, and since it took place near a river the bodies fell into its waters. The blood of the fallen people became the waters of the Red River. Legend has it that from that day on the river became known as Rio Tinto as well as the lands surrounding it.

* Quinta das Freiras is a park in Rio Tinto but many years ago that place was a convent. Nowadays the only thing left of this convent is a tower. In this park, people can play football, basketball, tennis and other sports. They can also walk, ride a byke, have picnics and many more outdoor activities.

* Rio Tinto recently acquired a new way of transportation: the metro. With its arrival it has become easier for the people of Rio Tinto to reach other areas, including the 2nd most important city of Portugal - Porto.
