List technology that your kids have available to them that you did not have at their age.

Looking at these pictures, what skills do students need to excel?

“ If we give students the same educational opportunity as their parents, they will also be well- prepared for the 20 th century. Let’s prepare them for the 21 st century before it ends!” Bill Daggett, President of ICL and futurist “If Rip Van Winkle woke up today, the only place he would recognize is school.” Claudia Wallis and Sonia Steptoe, “How to Bring Our Schools Out of the Twentieth Century” Time, Dec. 2006

 What are your ideas for what we should start doing in schools?  What should we stop doing in schools?  What does a challenging classroom look like?  How do we create a culture of challenge in all classrooms?

 When we get to the point that we don’t measure the level of our success based on a state assigned rating we can change education  Less preparation for standardized tests  More work on ◦ Critical thinking skills ◦ Collaboration with others ◦ Communication ◦ Creative thinking

 How well is our district preparing kids for the 21 st century?  Given these thoughts, how will our district goals need to change?  What steps must our district take to prepare our kids for their future?

 What steps should be taken right now?  What steps should be taken within: ◦ The next 6 months? ◦ The next year? ◦ 3 to 5 years?

 How can we measure if change has taken place?  What will our classes look like?  What skills will our students possess?
