31 Day Adventure Plan B

Review The value of an object is in its intrinsic nature  The essence of salt is saltiness  The essence of a disciple is selflessness

Review Discipleship is Costly Have I counted the cost and committed my life?

Plan B No one lives Plan A

Plan B Circumstances Other People Ourselves

Plan B Choices:  Pine away for "what could have been"  Become bitter and discouraged  Resign ourselves to a "second-rate" life  Try to force change

Plan B Choices: Trust that God knew and has a plan Trust that God knew and has a plan

Plan B How we handle the divide between what we wanted and what we have determines whether we live second-rate lives or lives full of meaning and purpose

Plan B Not: what happens to us But: how we respond to what happens to us

Plan B Every person that God used to do something significant in this world first had to deal with Plan B

Plan B God needs a king…

Plan B Samuel did what the LORD said. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked, "Do you come in peace?"

Plan B Samuel replied, "Yes, in peace; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come to the sacrifice with me." Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

Plan B When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, "Surely the LORD's anointed stands here before the LORD."

Plan B What's he looking at?

Plan B But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Plan B How does that differ from what man looks for? How should that change what we see?

Plan B Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, "The LORD has not chosen this one either." Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, "Nor has the LORD chosen this one."

Plan B Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, "The LORD has not chosen these." So he asked Jesse, "Are these all the sons you have?"

Plan B "There is still the youngest," Jesse answered, "but he is tending the sheep." Samuel said, "Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives."

Plan B  Don't ever count out what God hasn't counted out  Just because others have overlooked you doesn't mean God has

Plan B  Who you are in this world has NOTHING to do with what you can be in God's Kingdom  KEY: Decide now which world you're living for

Plan B So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the LORD said, "Rise and anoint him; he is the one."

Plan B So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah- 1 Samuel 16:4-11

Plan B The dreams of a shepherd…

Plan B And then! (Nothing)

Plan B Philistines

Now Jesse said to his son David, "Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp. Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. Now Jesse said to his son David, "Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp. Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit.

Plan B See how your brothers are and bring back some assurance from them. They are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines"- 1 Samuel 17:17-19

Plan B God's calling and God's timing aren't always the same David is humble and faithful

Plan B Just because your Plans aren't happening doesn't mean things are spiraling out of control. It just means you're not in control - Pete Wilson

Plan B UFC David vs. Goliath

Plan B National Hero Marries the Boss's Daughter The Dream is becoming Reality

Plan B Get the Point?

Plan B Run, Forrest, Run!

Plan B God can give victory over a trained warrior giant, but can't protect David from a spear-chunking madman? Don't give up 5 minutes (or 5 months) before God gives success

Plan B  And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up- Galatians 6:9

Plan B  Every time David tries to do it his way…

Plan B David went to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech trembled when he met him, and asked, "Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?"

Plan B David answered Ahimelech the priest, "The king charged me with a certain matter and said to me, 'No one is to know anything about your mission and your instructions.' As for my men, I have told them to meet me at a certain place.

Plan B But the priest answered David, "I don't have any ordinary bread on hand; however, there is some consecrated bread here- provided the men have kept themselves from women."

Plan B David replied, "Indeed women have been kept from us, as usual whenever I set out. The men's things are holy even on missions that are not holy. How much more so today!"

Plan B So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, since there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence that had been removed from before the LORD and replaced by hot bread on the day it was taken away - 1 Samuel 21:1-6

Plan B If I have to lie and take matters into my own hand to get a result, then it's not God's result I'm getting

Plan B Now one of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the LORD; he was Doeg the Edomite, Saul's head shepherd.

Plan B David asked Ahimelech, "Don't you have a spear or a sword here? I haven't brought my sword or any other weapon, because the king's business was urgent."

Plan B The priest replied, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one."

Plan B David said, "There is none like it; give it to me" - 1 Samuel 21:1-9

Plan B God sends a reminder How is the sword a warning and reminder from God?

Plan B Collateral Damage

Plan B The king then ordered Doeg, "You turn and strike down the priests." So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck them down. That day he killed eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.

Plan B He also put to the sword Nob, the town of the priests, with its men and women, its children and infants, and its cattle, donkeys and sheep - 1 Samuel 22:18-19

Plan B Meanwhile, back at the ranch…

Plan B One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her.

Plan B The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?"

Plan B When it comes to Plans, If I have to break God's commands to get it, it's not God's will for me to have it

Plan B Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her… Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant" - 2 Samuel 11:2-5

Plan B Lying, Plotting, Murder, Cover-up, Death

Plan B Circumstances: Still a shepherd (Serves faithfully and humbly)

Plan B Others: Saul tries to kill (Runs, lies, tries to control outcome instead of trusting God)

Plan B Self: Lying, Adultery, Murder (Tries to get for himself what God has not given him)

Plan B "I (God) gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more- 2 Sam. 12:8-9

Plan B Every good and perfect gift comes from God- James 1:17 If God hasn't given it, I don't need it

Plan B Tamar, Amnon, Absolom and Jerry Springer

Plan B David runs for the right reason

Plan B The king said to Zadok, "Take the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the LORD's eyes, he will bring me back and let me see it and his dwelling place again. The king said to Zadok, "Take the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the LORD's eyes, he will bring me back and let me see it and his dwelling place again.

Plan B But if he says, 'I am not pleased with you,' then I am ready; let him do to me whatever seems good to him"- 2 Sam. 15:25-26
