Giant Slayer 1 Samuel 17: May 2013

1 Samuel 17:20-51

Giant Slayer 20 Early in the morning David left the flock in the care of a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed. He reached the camp as the army was going out to its battle positions, shouting the war cry. 23 As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, stepped out from his lines and shouted his usual defiance, and David heard it. 24 Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear. 26 David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 27 They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, “This is what will be done for the man who kills him.”

Faith is at the heart of Christian Life Without faith, we can’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Yet many believers struggle in fully trusting the Lord.

Matthew 6:30 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Matthew 8:26 26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

Matthew 16 8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? Matthew He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Giant Slayer 1.David demonstrate his trust in God V David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

-having a complete trust in the Lord in face of overwhelming challenges. -David declared his victory even before the battle begin

B. The Key to David’s victory V Full confidence and Trust in the name of the Lord God is willing to give you the capacity to see what the human eye cannot see.

C. Are fully trusting God? 3 levels of faith I know the Lord can do this I know that He will do it “It’s as good as done.”

How will you know that you are operating in the highest level of faith? - You no longer fret. Psalm 37:7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, Worry reveals that you are not fully trusting the Lord. When you fully trust in Him, you will STOP pleading with the Lord and START thanking Him for the answered prayer.

D. Requirements for a Giant slaying faith 1.Pure heart – Psalm 24:4 He who has clean hands and pure hearts.. he shall receive blessings from the Lord. 2. Pure Mind – James 4:8 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded

3. Pure Motives Psalm 26:2 Put me on trial Lord and cross examine me. Test my motives and my heart. 4. Focus on the Lord Hebrews 12:2 Fixing our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith

5. Walk in the light of finish products Live as if it is just a matter of time before your prayer is answered. Philippians 4 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
