WELCOME TO THE JACKSON STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST PLEASE TURN OFF CELL PHONES

Matthew 7:1-5 "Judge not, that you be not judged. (2) For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. (3) And why do you LOOK at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not CONSIDER the plank in your own eye? (4) Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and LOOK, a plank is in your own eye? (5) Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will SEE CLEARLY to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

LOOK? A.There are lots of different words for the concept of “look” 1.See 2.Observe 3.Gaze 4.View 5.Watch 6.Observe 7.Eyeball 8.Behold 9.Glance 10.Peer B. Did you know that Jesus used four different words for look in Matthew 7:1-5?

I. βλέπεις - "LOOK AT" (7:3) A.To have the mere faculty of sight. B.This is how you view the brother's fault. C.It is so easy to see the faults of others. D.2 Samuel 12:1-7 Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: "There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. (2) The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. (3) But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. >>>

I. βλέπεις - "LOOK AT" (7:3) D.(4) And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man's lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him." (5) So David's anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, "As the LORD lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! (6) And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity." (7) Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.

II. κατανοε ῖ ς - "CONSIDER" (7:3) A.Think carefully, examine thoroughly. B.This is how you do not view your own fault. C.It is difficult for us to see our own faults. D.We should be carefully examining our own lives for faults. E.2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified.

III. ἰ δο ὺ - "LOOK" (7:4) A.Call attention to the exterior of oneself. B.This is how clearly others see your fault. C.We need to get outside of ourselves and walk around and see ourselves as others see us. D.Ephesians 5:15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,

IV. διαβλέψεις "SEE CLEARLY" (7:5) A.To view attentively, without anything blocking your view. B.This is how you will be able to see after you clear up your fault. C.Mark 8:22-25 Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. (23) So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. (24) And he looked up and said, "I see men like trees, walking." (25) Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. D.We should always be sure that our vision is clear when we look at other’s sins.

HOW’S YOUR SIGHT? A.Neighbor’s dirty laundry. B.How's your spiritual sight? C.Are you sure you are seeing clearly when you look at other’s sins? D.Is it possible that your sins are clouding what you are seeing? E.Matthew 7:1-2 "Judge not, that you be not judged. (2) For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
