My journey I am going to follow the expedition of Matthew Flinders' who between mapped the coast of Australia
My journey I am leaving from Sydney and headed north to Norfolk Island (just like Matthew Flinders) On the way I stopped at Moreton Bay and Hervey Bay- the weather was great so I stayed a night a each. I then went back to Sydney So on this journey I was only away for 1 week
My next journey This is a much longer journey and I am leaving from Sydney again and heading north. Matthew Flinders did this in 1802 in a large ship and his task was to sail right around Australia. It took him 1 year. He sailed up the Gulf of Carpentaria and then across the top of Australia, down the west coast and across the south around and then back up to Sydney.
After leaving Sydney I stopped at Brisbane for 2 days then I sailed on to Cairns for a night, on to Cape York, across to Darwin which took 2 days and nights, across the top of Australia and down the west coast to Broome- all of this took me a week. I then headed down to Karrabie and stayed there a day because it was so picturesque Around the North West Cape and down to Perth, I stayed there for 2 days to recover
Onwards I went around Cape Leeuwin and along the southern coast. I stopped fro supplies at Esperance, then continued on for 2 days to Adelaide Collected more supplies and travelled on to Melbourne, another 2 days. Then I was homeward bound. Around Wilson’s Promontory, up past Bairnsdale, around Cape Howe and back to Sydney
My journey has taken me just over 4 weeks, compared to the whole year Matthew Flinders had taken. I left in September because I knew the weather would not be stormy I took wet weather gear, because I knew i would be sprayed by the waves and apart from that I just took comfortable clothes
To begin my journey I made sure I had enough fresh food and water for a week, and after that I picked up fresh food wherever I stopped My boat was well equipped but i took my sleeping bag and mobile phone so I could stay in contact I also had navigational equipment on my boat and a GPS My journey cost me about $2000
