AIM: What are habitats and niches? Explain how two (or more) organisms may have the same habitat but different niches!

HabitatNiche biotic vs. abiotic Habitat Niche biotic vs. abiotic AIM: What are habitats and niches?

QUESTION: What is your role in life? All organism have some sort of role in life Some sort of role in their environment and/or ecosystem …this is called their niche…

What is a Niche? An organism’s role in its ecosystem Do all organisms have the same niche ?

The words Habitat and Niche are related terms, But they have different meanings

Examine the next few pictures and try to deduce What the habitat is for each type organism?

Do lions and vultures share the same habitat? Do they have the same niche ?

Could the butterfly and the flowers share the same habitat? Do they have the same niche ?

Do polar bears, walrus, and seals share the same habitat? Do they have the same niche ?

What is the habitat of a: “robin” House cat Earth worm Pine tree “bacteria in your small intestine”

The animals below share habitats. Are their niches the same? The ant and the anteater Spiders and flies lions and gazelles

What do you think happens if two animals share the same niche in the same habitat? Competition for food and resources The animal that is better adapted survives What happens to the animal that looses?

Biotic vs Abiotic Living factors Non-living factors

REVIEW VOCABULARY – AND THE AIM – AND THE OBJECTIVES AIM: What are habitats and niches?
